behold: i am of small account.
behold: the Man.

romans 8:35-37

“who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? as it is written, ‘for your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.’ no, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”

i’m 98% certain that i’ve always deliberately misunderstood this verse. usually i read it really fast and come away with this: “in all these things we are more than conquerors through the way we love God.” or even less meaningful: “in all these things we are more than conquerors through the way we inspire people.” “in all these things we are more than conquerors compared to all the other poor suckers out there in the universe.”

look at this funny paradox: WE are conquerors through HIM who loved us. we’re conquerors because we’re loved by Someone else. we win because He won. we win because He loves us. and that doesn’t hinge on my prayer life, on my tone of voice in response to a customer complaint, on my attitude on any given sunday morning. no: your love, o Lord, reaches to the heavens. so we really do have nothing to worry about. i can conquer the challenges of today because He conquered my sin on the Cross, and continues to conquer my heart daily.
